Lori Shapiro has 20 years of legal experience, over 15 of them have been in the professional liability/healthcare industry. She practiced as a medical malpractice defense attorney for many years before shifting to the claims side of the industry. There Ms. Shapiro rose to become Director of a carrier Claims Department, where she regularly engaged with the carrier’s Executive Team, underwriters, and General Counsel.  There she helped further claims and strategy initiatives to expand the company into other states and lines of business. Amongst other things, Ms. Shapiro implemented department-wide policies and procedures and revised defense counsel guidelines and templates to provide structure and uniformity to the claims handling processes and meet departmental financial goals.  

Ms. Shapiro has led claims training initiatives, claims meeting and complex or high exposure settlements with Judges, mediators and counsel, and she managed multi-million-dollar class action cases. She was also responsible for maintaining communication with all external and internal business partners including dozens of clients nationwide. 

Ms. Shapiro has brought all the valuable tools and information she learned on the claims side back to BPN where she uses her knowledge and experience to vigorously defend her clients. Ms. Shapiro has been selected to present on multiple panels at conferences and webinars throughout the country. She currently serves as President of the Associate of Healthcare Risk Management of New York (AHRMNY) and sits on the board of AHRMNY. Previously, she served as President-Elect, Chair of the Education Committee and Chair of the Nominating Committee of AHRMNY.  Ms. Shapiro is a current member of the New York State Bar Association. She earned her Juris Doctor (JD) from Brooklyn Law School where she participated in Moot Court Honor Society, the Dean’s List and was the recipient of multiple awards for excellence in her studies. She received her Bachelor of Arts, Magna Cum Laude, from Binghamton University.
