Joseph Furlong for more than 40 years has represented clients who faced significant exposure based on allegations of bodily injury and/or wrongful death resulting from medical malpractice, dental malpractice, podiatric malpractice as well as claims arising from treatment at nursing homes. The lawsuits also dealt with cases of general liability, auto accidents and the Labor Law (which also involves insurance coverage and contractual issues.)
These cases often dealt with claims involving high-technology litigation, often involving the malfunction of operating equipment. These cases included approximately 40 jury verdicts, the vast majority defense verdicts. He has also represented clients in the Appellate Divisions on approximately 75 appeals, including a case which, for the first time, dealt with a dismissed for failure to file a Notice of Malpractice Action. Many resulted in cases being dismissed by summary judgment.
He has lectured at the St. John’s Law School Continuing Legal Education program for the past 15 years. Joe graduated from the University of Notre Dame (1976) and the St. John’s School of Law (1979). He was admitted to practice law in New York in January 1980. He is also admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the United States Court of Appeals, Second Circuit.
