Alexander M. Fear has been engaged in the practice of law for almost two decades. Starting his career at a real estate litigation firm in the Bronx, Mr. Fear transitioned from private practice to become a Court Attorney working for Judges in the New York City Housing Court, and then to one of NYC’s preeminent boutique real estate firms handling litigation and transactional matters.
After five years with the real estate firm, Mr. Fear was retained as General Counsel for a real estate corporation engaged in the acquisition, ownership and management of more than 150 commercial and residential buildings in and around New York City. Following this position, Mr. Fear became General Counsel to a multi-site Article 28 Federally Qualified and JCAHO certified Healthcare Center. During this time, Mr. Fear was also tapped by the New York State Senate to act as part time Special Counsel to the Senate Housing Committee, a position in which he provided guidance to Senators regarding proposed real estate bills.
While managing the Medical Center’s real estate portfolio, Mr. Fear also achieved his Certification in Healthcare Compliance and instituted the Center’s first compliance program. He also advised management and Board members, drafted operational policies and agreements, responded to audits, and negotiated with OMIG, DOH, and numerous other government officials.
Following his position with the Medical Center, Mr. Fear established his own firm and now represents physicians and administrators at medical centers and private practices around the metro area. Acting as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer for many of his clients, Mr. Fear works with them as they navigate the maze of healthcare regulations including HIPAA and HITECH, Stark and the Anti-kickback regulations. As General Counsel, Mr. Fear assists his clients in all aspects of their practices, including corporate formation, drafting governance, compliance and various other operational documents, while handling any real estate matters that may arise.
Mr. Fear obtained his undergraduate degree from St. Lawrence University in 1989. He obtained his law license in 1996 from Hofstra University School of Law. He is admitted to practice in the State of New York as well as in the Southern and Eastern Districts of the Federal Courts and Bankruptcy Court. Mr. Fear is an active member of the American Healthcare Lawyers Association.
